Jana Hawley, director of the UA's John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences, focuses her research largely on sustainability in the clothing industry and textile recycling. Hawley started recycling research in the 90's and says, "I chose the topic because my background is in fashion, but I wanted my work to be more meaningful. I wanted to contribute (research) to some of the issues that the industry has, and one of those issues is overconsumption and, therefore, too much waste."
The UA is home to trailblazing thinkers working at the intersections of business, economics, and the environment to provide an understanding of the costs and benefits of a changing environment and the relevance to business practices. From the economic analysis of alternative policy to the business case for sustainability, UA faculty are contributing to new partnerships and more effective choices for our economy.
